Fundamentals of Editing
Class emphasis: why a cut or edit works and how to cut for narrative and documentary. All editing will emphasize technique and theory over software and application. Along with shooting, masterworks of cinema will be viewed, with an emphasis on editing. Class meets on Sat or Sunday or during the week very flexible.
Mark Siska’s dynamic, enthusiastic teaching style took the fear out of the digital video world for this middle-aged neophyte! With Mark’s patient encouragement, learning how to edit and the basics of digital video shooting was a total delight His good humor and laid-back style complement his vast knowledge of video film production. Shooting and Composition
Class emphasis: functions of the camera and how to shoot. Students will do weekly shooting exercises to find out how to see and compose shots. Along with shooting, masterworks of photography, painting and cinema will be viewed, with an emphasis on composition. Studio photography, creating the portrait and working with models also avaliable. Independent Study Class meets on Sat or Sunday or during the week very flexible.
Cinéma Vérité/Direct Cinema
Cinéma Vérité or Direct Cinema is a style of filmmaking, combining naturalistic techniques that originated in documentary filmmaking with the storytelling elements typical of a scripted or semi-scripted film. Class meets on Sat or Sunday or during the week very flexible.
Shooting the Improvisational Movie
This class incorporates improvisational directing techniques, how to structure for an improvisational movie. Narrative projects, fictional documentaries or documentary/ narrative projects are encouraged. Masterworks of improvisational cinema will be viewed. Class meets on Sat or Sunday or during the week very flexible.
Documentary Field Production
This class allows for the student to gain hands-on experience by working on a documentary in the field. The student will have the opportunity to shoot in a controlled studio environment, as well as field shooting. Class meets on Sat or Sunday or during the week very flexible.
